jean desmetJean de Smet - Town Council (Willimantic)

Jean has spent her life working with Windham residents for the good of our community.  Jean understands that our residents’ priorities include better jobs, quality housing and helping our youth, local businesses and residents connect.

As a founding member of Willimantic Renaissance, Jean has produced the 3rd Thursday Street Fests for 18 years.  Jean was the last First Selectwoman for Windham, serving from 2007-09, while our country plunged into recession.  Jean didn’t raise the tax rate, and didn’t spend down reserve funds.  We can do it again.

As Chair of the Energy Commission, Jean introduces opportunities for energy efficiency and renewable energy to the municipality, and to residents. A retired IBEW Electrician, Jean helps with Victorian Home Tours, Public Garden plantings, and loves to walk her dog.
