I am Jean de Smet and I am running for First Selectman of Windham, Connecticut.I
love Windham. Yet we can be a more vital and prosperous town. We
desperately need new leadership for Windham to move forward. I know
what has to be done, and I deliver results. Windham is a very special
place. Beautiful rivers, forests, and historic villages surround our
small, friendly city. This is the ideal place to call home. We should
be very proud of what we have, but we have the potential to be much
better.
Our greatest strength is our people. I first visited
Willimantic right out of college, when I was invited to play softball.
I discovered something I had never before experienced: community. I
found a great group of people, from my friends at Rec Park to
politicians; people raising their kids, teaching college or working at
the Mills.
We are what makes Windham special. It’s no accident
that only in Windham do we celebrate the 4th of July with a Boom Box
Parade. We send our little leaguers to China and Poland. We celebrate
our community every 3rd Thursday. We show off our Victorian homes, frog
bridge, and wooded walks alike. And we always pitch in to help when
we’re needed. Partisan
politics does not belong in local government and I’m putting those
words into action by joining with candidates from all parties on The
Bottom Line slate. We need to drop our partisanship and hear each
others’ ideas. I’m excited to be a member of The Bottom Line. We will
work together to make Windham better. I
produce the 3rd Thursday Street Fests. I’ve seen how Town Hall works
and how it, frankly, does not work. Through my many activities, I'm
painfully aware that we are lacking effective leadership. I have a
28-year history of fighting Town Hall and backroom deals. With
good leadership and management, we can move Windham forward. I have the
courage, the energy, the strength and the passion to get the job done.
I won’t quit when the going gets tough. I deliver results. Jean de Smet 39 Davis Street Willimantic, CT 06226 456-2188 j.deSmet@att.net |
