For Immediate Release
Hartford, CT – January 25 – The Green Party of Connecticut is pleased to host the first state appearance of Jill Stein since her run for president of the United States, next month in Portland's Waverly Center (located near Middletown), where she will discuss the 2016 election, the outcome of her recent three-state recount campaign in three swing states, her participation in the women's rights inauguration protest and what comes next under Trump.
In contrast to the media emphasis on the purported Russian government hacking of the 2016 presidential race, Dr. Stein's recount focused on the more immediate and documented history of systemic election tampering originating within our own borders: "This is an election that has been riddled with hacking--hacking into voter databases in Illinois and Arizona… hacking into the Democratic Party database, hacking into various campaign officials' emails." Continuing from a November 26, 2016 interview in Paste (pastemagazine.com), "You have a voting system that has been proven to be very friendly to… manipulation and malfeasance," contributing to a public experience that has left, according to the New York Times, 80 percent of voters disgusted not with the imagined actions of the Kremlin, but with the US electoral system.
Breaking free from the long-standing bi-partisan conundrum of voting against, rather than for a candidate, Ranked-Choice Voting (just passed in Maine) and other voter empowering reforms mark just some of various strategies towards greater engagement in a politics that—now more than ever—properly belongs to the people.
This fundraising event will be held on Sunday, February 12 at the Waverly Center and will run from 1:00 to 4:00 pm. In addition to Jill Stein, it will feature commentaries by several 2016 party candidates from around Connecticut, live music by Fe Fi Fo, food and merchandise for sale, as well as opportunities for mingling. All are welcome; the event is free to the public (donations to the Green Party of CT gratefully accepted). The address is:
