EXPERIENCE
-
Registering voters since 1986 (Project VOTE, Chester,
Penna.)
-
Taught citizenship classes to aspiring U.S. citizens in
Bridgeport and New Haven
-
Member of CT Green Party since 1996, Secretary of
Fairfield County chapter since 2002
DEDICATION TO DEMOCRACY
-
Make sure that every Stamford citizen is allowed to
vote—no mysterious cleaning of the voter lists (click
to view shocking video about the 55,000 Florida
voters who were disenfranchised in 2000)
-
Make voter registration and change-of-address forms
available in all town offices, libraries, etc. Organize
voter registration drives in the community
-
Encourage resident immigrants to apply for
U.S. citizenship and take part in the democratic
process
-
Fully implement the
Voting Rights Restoration Act of 2001. Convicted
felons who have served their time should be reintegrated
into society, including the body politic.
ADVOCACY FOR REFORM
-
No
electronic voting machines without a voter verifiable
paper trail.
Why did Senator Dodd kill the paper trail?
-
Publicly-funded elections with a limited campaign
period and equal media time—government should not be up
for sale to the biggest spender.
-
Instant Runoff Voting (IRV)—no candidate should be
elected without 50% of the vote. We need more people to
run for office, without fear of “spoiling” another
candidate.
-
Voter registration forms at all U.S. Post Offices.
Why does Uncle Sam provide forms for income tax and
draft registration, but not voter registration?
-
Election Day Registration for last-minute voters who
recently moved or were mistakenly dropped from the
lists. The Legislature already passed this bill (with
strict ID requirements to safeguard against fraud), but
Gov. Rowland vetoed it. With Rowland gone, now we can
get this done.
