Candidates for Co-Chair (3 positions)

Candidate for Co-Chair
Hamden (New Haven Chapter)

My political activism spans over half a century, starting with arrests in Houston in Spring 1961, protesting Jim Crow. I worked in Ralph Nader’s 2000 Presidential Campaign and was elected as a Green to the New Haven Board of Aldermen in 2007.

I want your vote for co-chairperson: co-founder and co-chairperson of the GPCT; strong supporter of 2012 GPUS Presidential campaign; my candidacy got 2% vote for Congress; litigant against CT’s unfair Campaign Finance Law. I will continue to work to make the Executive Committee and the GPCT democratic, independent, transparent and effective.

Rolf Maurer

Candidate for Co-Chair
Stamford (Fairfield County Chapter)

Besides several past runs for assorted offices, involvement in local Occupy programs and the Stamford UNAC conference have imbued me with a zeal for popularizing inclusive solutions to economic, health care and energy insecurity.

As 47% of new Connecticut voters are unaffiliated with the two parties, the prospect of furthering the GP into the mainstream is better than ever.

As a co-chair candidate, I am interested in advancing the CT Green Party through an emphasis on accountability, inclusivity and, when it comes to proposals of any kind, a reasonable expectation of clarity, precision and sufficient time in which to consider and deliberate them.

While much energy and time has been lost over the 2011-12 period due to debate over operational changes, a renewed commitment to how the GP should function internally is the best way to distinguish ourselves externally from the Democrats, Republicans and caucus-based movements or party appendages, like the Tea Party Patriots and Working Families Party.

Considering the complex of threats to civil liberties, the environment, energy security, food integrity, labor/economic/health care rights, the popularization of our 10 Key Values is a much needed and constructive alternative to the anger, deception and fear that fuels mainstream political discourse and US foreign policy.

How effective we are in implementing solutions to such challenges, whether through the hosting of timely presentations, organizing rallies, challenging the legislative strictures that systemically marginalize the impact of third parties, or ongoing contact with voters on evolving issues to inspire public ownership of the political process, our viability as a party should not rest overmuch on an eagerness to ally ourselves with whatever organization is likely to have the biggest political impact, but--based on what we stand for--whether we deserve to have one, ourselves.

I want to help to unify members, encourage collaboration and professionalize our work. Both statewide and local activities, meetings and events are equally important. I want to develop a female and a diverse leadership and membership. Outreach should be organized with publicity and literature.

I will continue to provide clear, concise and accurate CTGP records and ethical leadership; promote CTGP growth and independence as a political party; respect for diversity; transparency; compliance with CTGP bylaws and state and federal regulations; develop legislative agendas; synergy with CTGP chapters, members, SCC, EC and CTGP committees.

Ronna Stuller

Candidate for Secretary
New London (New London Chapter)
Email: rstuller(at)snet.net

I have enjoyed serving as one of the CTGP Co-Chairs for the last 2 years, but, now that I have joined the ranks of the retired, I have the time to take on the more demanding job of Secretary. As Secretary of the New London chapter, I’ve learned to appreciate the importance of accurate, timely and responsive communication. Serving at the state level, my goals are to improve how the SCC gathers, records and disseminates information – with the national party, the state chapters and all the individual Greens – and to build an informal but efficient network that will support Connecticut Greens’ local activities and also allow us to mobilize for a statewide effort when the need arises.

I want to continue on the NC. I have national contacts that can help the Party. I have contacts and experience in the civil rights, feminist and trade union movements, areas we need to reach. I was the only female from CT and we need a woman on the NC.

The mission of the IC is: to foster collaboration and exchange with Green parties around the world; to facilitate official GPUS representation on the international and global level; to facilitate GPUS issue and policy development on the international and global level; and to network with green organizations and movements working on the international and global level.

In keeping with that mission as just past co-chair and rep to the IC for several years, I’ve served as point person on the Palestinian-Israeli Conflict, drafting position papers on the issue, including the Palestinian Right of Return, and the One Democratic State solution which have formed the basis for the GPUS platform on the conflict. I have also made contacts with international greens educating them on our positions, and sought common ground where possible. With regard to my background, I earned doctorates in cultural anthropology and psychology and lived/traveled widely in the Middle East, where I conducted research in Lebanon and Iran. Also since the mid-1990’s, I’ve traveled regularly to Israel and the Occupied Palestinian Territories where I’ve done respite workshops for humanitarian workers.

As part of the role of IC rep, I see educating GPCT members on foreign policy issues and the views on these issues of international greens; seeking the imput of GPCT members on these foreign policy issues; and helping the IC serve as a resource for the party, especially including GP candidates for office. I’ve greatly enjoyed representing GPCT on the IC and ask for your vote again.
