We need new leadership in the CT Green Party.

As one of three “first time” candidates running as CT Green Party Women’s Caucus endorsed candidates, I am asking for your vote.

Recently, we built structures within the CT Green Party to deal with pressures that foster division. We support this work and further efforts to refine and improve on it.

As new leadership, we would support and implement the Action Plan structure of committees at the chapter and State level. Strong chapters will help us to educate, mobilize and strengthen the CT Green Party.

Based on histories of activism, we will work consciously and constructively to build unity and gender and racial equality. We will open our arms to peace and community activists, trade unionists, environmentalists, health and childcare advocates and ordinary people who have said, Enough is enough!

As a member of the Northwest Chapter of the CT Green Party I campaigned for Tom Ethier and Tom Sevigny during their 2000 campaigns for the State Legislature, and registered as a Green soon after. I am currently the voting representative and recording secretary of the CT Green Party Women’s Caucus.

In addition, I am a member of Imagine Peace, a Litchfield-based peace activist group. I am a Literacy Volunteer and I also tutor a 4th-grader weekly at my work-place. I work as a Mainframe system software programmer. I have two grown children and two grandchildren.

I want your vote for co-chair of the CT Green Party. For the last year I have served as co-chair of our party and I am a founding member of the CT Green Party. Over the last year I have:

Worked hard to build Grassroots Democracy, accountability, and fairness on the executive board and in our state party.
Developed numerous projects to raise money.
Organized the coalitions V.O.T.E.R. (Election Reform) and P.O.W.E.R. (anti-electric restructuring).
Organized the Diversity Caucus
Made outreach

I believe that the heart and soul of our party is found in our chapters. Over the last few years I have:

Run twice for CT Senate.
Been campaign manager for the three successful campaigns of Elizabeth Horton Sheff.
Worked with the CT Coalition For Environmental Justice in fighting pollution and asthma.
Produced a weekly radio show that advocates Green Values.
Written op-ed pieces about the CT Green Party.

Over the next year I will work hard with others in the CT Green party to:

Bring healing, encourage diversity, and improve communication.
Help develop an action plan to develop committees that support Grassroots Democracy, openness, and accountability.
Help to raise money.
Increase membership, and build new chapters and candidacies.

The CT Green Party has a great future and we now have an opportunity to bring about the changes necessary to make our future bright by voting for me, Elizabeth Horton Sheff, and Ralph Ferrucci for co-chairs.

I am a member of the New Haven Peace Commission and the New Haven Reparations Coalition. I serve as co-chair for the 8th Ward’s Common Ground Good Government community organization. With my wife, I am a Family Mediator, and I am a mediator for the National Association of Social Workers. I work as a special education teacher and Licensed Clinical Social Worker. I am a delegate to the Bridgeport Education Association. I’ve worked on campaigns for Bruce Crowder, Charlie Pillsbury, Joyce Chen, Vic Edgerton, and, most recently, Alderman Michael B. Smart, in the 8th Ward.

Rally against the job layoffs at Governor Rowland’s mansion
Lead organizer of the Green Party Anti-War rally in New Haven

Supported and marched with the Yale Unions 34 and 35
Supported and marched with 1199 to stop state layoffs and the support of Yale NH Hospital workers to form a Union.

It is my belief that the Greens can grow to be a strong and viable third party in Connecticut, but change in leadership is needed first. I will do the following as a Green Co-Chair:

Build an open Party that stands for Grassroots Democracy
Increase Membership
Build New Chapters
Help Develop an action plan to develop committees that support
Grassroots Democracy, openness, and accountability
Become a more vocal party
Outreach to Organizations and Unions

The Greens have grown tremendously, but in the last year they have reached a stand still. Now is the time for change so we can move forward and start to build the party again. I am asking for your support for myself, Mike DeRosa and Elizabeth Horton Sheff.

Dear Fellow Greens:

I send this letter to indicate my interest in serving as one of your state co-chairs.

This was not an easy decision for me, but after much reflection I have decided to cast my lot at your disposal.

I ask your support for many reasons, but there are two which I believe to be of great significance. The first is that I want to help foster healing in our party.

It saddens me to acknowledge that for far too long have we expended far too much energy on that which only causes pain and strive. We need to refocus and work towards:

Building a party that increases not only in numbers but also in its courage to confront societal injustices both at home and abroad
Developing partnerships with other individuals, organized groups, and political parties of like mind, and like goals

The second reason is that I would like to work with others to realize stronger partnerships with persons and communities of color. Although we have at times attempted to travel this road, we have never managed to meet anyone of color going our way. We need to roll up our sleeves and support those among us who daily struggle to fulfill the base needs of their families.

In closing, I ask that you not only give me your vote, but that you also join Mike DeRosa, Ralph Ferrucci, and myself in raising the Green Party toward its highest potential.

For 10 years, I was a member of Local 34 at Yale University, a member of the Executive Board, a steward, and member of the Affirmative Action Committee. I worked on the Charlie Pillsbury for Congress campaign and then became a founder and chair of the Shoreline Green Party Chapter. I am a member of the Guilford Peace Alliance and the Branford Conservation and Environment Commission.

I graduated from Wesleyan University and worked as an artist in Paris, France for 7 years. I live in Branford, CT with my husband, David Adams. We have three children and four grandsons.

I was honored to be asked to be a candidate for the National (Coordinating) Committee. I have been active in the Central Conn. Chapter of the Green Party for over 3 years. I have served as a Co-Chair of the group, assisted with finances, and monitoring our PO Box. I have attended and participated in State Green Party meetings as often as my work schedule would allow. I recently worked to have the State Greens endorse our participation in the US Labor Against War tour, which is significant to me from my perspective as a union activist and leader (Congress of Connecticut Community Colleges).

I have been quite active as a Green in the recent anti-war movement, the Middletown Action Coalition (MAC), and the Middletown Alliance for Peace (MAP), which sponsored the Dec. 2003 pot-luck dinner for state-wide activists.

One of my big concerns is that the Greens return to their roots in fighting for peace, social justice and equality for all. Here in CT., with all of the interpersonal and bureaucratic fighting, I think we have lost sight of the need to reach people, and change the direction of the country. We can disagree collegially, without this tearing us apart. If elected to this position on the national committee, I will make sure to properly represent you, communicate back and forth, and push for the Greens to be and embody the voice of social justice that can potentially win people over to our ideals.

For those of whom I have not met, may I tell you about myself. I am the co-founder of the Green Party of Rhode Island, and its former Co-Chair. In 1992, I helped take a bunch of people meeting in an art gallery to one of the strongest state Green Parties. One of my favorite and proudest moments was casting a vote as R.I. National Committee to form the official “Green Party of the United States” in 2001, after we won one of the highest vote counts for the Green Presidential campaign.

Timely reports on all national party issues, votes and discussions
Seeking as much input from every CT Green as possible, on these issues
Educating CT. Greens on ways they can have a larger and better say in The Green Party of the United States
Finding ways to bringing local issues to the national stage

Graduated Phi Beta Kappa from Trinity College in 1995 with a BA in History. Currently finishing my Masters Thesis on the subject of the growth of corporation in 19th century America.

Co-founder of the CT Green Party in 1996.

Ran for State Representative in 2000 and State Senate in 2002.

Served for 5 years as co-chair of the Green Party of the United States.

Twice have spoken/represented the GPUS in Europe at the European Union in Brussels and the European Federation of Green Parties in Budapest.

Presently chair the Bylaws committee of the GPUS.

I have been secretary for almost a year. If elected I will continue my practice of accepting and “publishing” “I remember things happened differently [at the meeting]” or “I remember that this also occurred” addenda (possible corrections) to my minutes, so that limitations or possible inaccuracies in my minutes can be dealt with in a fashion that minimizes conflict within the Party.

Besides writing minutes, I have spent countless hours over the past year working on meeting agendas, keeping track of happenings and viewpoints within the Party, and trying to help the Party grow (for example, by responding, together with Tom Sevigny and others, to occasional inquiries for information about the Party that came to the website).

My goals are to:

Continue the above work without burning out.
Ensure that our Party sticks to its democratic ideals by ensuring that concepts such as open committee meetings (in nearly all cases), free speech, and ability to constructively criticize elected Party officers are put into practice and/or adhered to.
Do what I can to help chapters flourish, committees flourish, and candidates get elected. This means, in part, getting people who express an interest in the Green Party involved, and also trying to catalyze (where possible, in small ways) a movement toward greater commitment of Party members. It means identifying people with possible leadership potential and interacting with those people to encourage their further involvement with the Party.

Recently, we built structures within the CT Green Party to deal with pressures that foster division. We support this work and further efforts to refine and improve on it.

After 9/11 I decided to get involved with the Green Party in Connecticut. I worked on Tom Sevigny’s campaign for State Senate in 2002. and also helped last fall with Vic Edgerton’s campaign for the New Haven Board of Alderman. I am involved with the CT Green Party Diversity Committee and plan on working with the Communications Committee. Outside of the Green Party I have worked on drug war issues with Efficacy. Along with my wife, Elisa, and my daughter, Kira, I have been actively involved with Winsted Peace Action. I’m a vegan. I have been in business for myself for 10 years creating computer animation for video.
