Scott Deshefy to Seek Green Nomination
NORWICH, CT—The Green Party of CT will hold a Nominating Convention on Saturday, April 12, 2008, at 2:00 pm, at the Otis Library, 261 Main Street, Norwich, CT, for the purpose of nominating a candidate for the 2nd Congressional District. All members of the Green Party who reside in the 2nd Congressional District are eligible to vote at the convention.
Green Party spokesperson Tim McKee said this is the first Green Party Convention for the Second Congressional District in the state. The Greens are seeking to build a stronger network in the large eastern part of the state, in a district that starts in Enfield and goes to New London.
Scott Deshefy, a retired CT Department of Environmental Protection scientist is running for Congress and is seeking the endorsement at the Convention.
McKee added, "I think Deshefy is a very qualified candidate for Congress. He worked at the Electric Boat shipyards as a young man, was on the Norwich school board and has been a working scientist for the state dealing with toxic issues across the state. This is an impressive resume for any candidate. It shows he is not a professional politician, and he brings a breath of fresh air to the race."
The Convention will also discuss other candidates for office and issues the 2nd District may face in the future. Petitioning requirements for candidates, including President and Congress, will be discussed and explained.
The Convention is free and open to the pubic.
