ISSUES:
Stamford needs a
Safe Routes to School program so children can walk and bike to school. This fosters
self-reliance and healthy habits as well as reducing automobile congestion.
Redistricting and consolidation are disruptive practices that serve to
depersonalize the school learning environment. Small neighborhood schools are generally
the best way to increase parent involvement and build a sense of community. This has to
be balanced with the need for racial and economic diversity; ultimately, we need to have
integrated neighborhoods instead of segregating high-income and low-income housing.
