Vic has worked to enforce Federal and local laws protecting the environment and health with local agencies for over 10 years. He has a Master of Environmental Management and a Master of Public Health from Yale who commutes on two wheels. In New Haven he
- Worked to beautify and build community parks
- Testified against the Cross Sound Cable, providing an analysis that helped persuade the Board of Aldermen to vote in favor of Green Party Alderman John Halle's resolution against the Cable. That was followed by opposition from the mayor, the State Attorney General and the Governor (in the form of a moratorium on new Cables or pipelines).
- Worked with the Newhall Coalition, a citizen's action group living around the contaminated Hamden Middle School, to assess their health risks in a highly participatory research effort. New Haven Register Story | WTNH Story
- Advocated for a fair contract for Yale workers
- Supported the Naclerio Amendment, an effort to get Yale to give a fair share contribution to the city to compensate for the corporate welfare tax exemption it enjoys at the expense of New Haven residents and businesses.
- Provided testimony about the Governor's Climate Change Action Plan
- Provided comments to City Plan on the New Haven Comprehensive Plan of Development, which were incorporated.
- Is working with Mechanic Street residents to organize a Neighborhood Association and Block Watch. Already organized a neighborhood clean-up day
- Continuing to work to keep waste transfer stations under control on the waterfront and to turn the waterfront into a less industrial, more commercial land use that takes advantage of the natural beauty of New Haven.
- Was part of a team to get all Yale Power plants to switch from No 6 to No 2 oil where in 1999 they were two of the top 5 contributors to particulates in the air, for which New Haven is exceeding federal standards.
- Is a member of the Share the Streets Committee (now called the GO-alition to make the city bore bicycle-friendly
- Used his scientific and engineering expertise to work with Nash St residents to eliminate a sewer odor in the neighborhood
- Is a member of the New Haven Environmental Justice Network
- Worked to build stronger communities by recruiting graduate students into local politics and volunteer activities
- Made a documentary film about the neighborhood to inform new residents (of which there are many every year because of the high student population) of local issues, predisposing them to be more involved in their communities.
- Attended the World Summit of Sustainable Development in Johannesburg where he met with other people trying to make their cities sustainable from the bottom-up.
