Candidate Profile: co-chair of state Green Party, BBA Hofstra University 1980, Litchfield County Coordinator Stop the Stadium, Green Party Candidate for Torrington City Council 1999 - 14 % of vote. Tom Ethier has been interested in issues of social and economic justice for the last twenty years. In 1996 he joined the Green Party and helped get Ralph Nader on the ballot in Connecticut in the presidential election. In 1999 he was a County Coordinator for Stop the Stadium, a grassroots organization that helped prevent a billion-dollar taxpayer handout to the New England Patriots. In the fall of last year, he was a Green Party candidate for City Council in Torrington where he received 1,400 votes, a strong showing for a political newcomer running as a third party. During the election he impressed many voters with his ideas, command of the issues and willingness to take a stand. His written opinions are regularly featured in the Voice News and he has had op-eds published in the Register Citizen and Waterbury Republican. He is currently employed as a training consultant in the information services field, an area that he has worked in for more than 10 years.
